Banned Books Week 2012!!
IT'S BANNED BOOKS WEEK!
September 30 - October 6
2012
It's every Librarian's favorite time of year. The time of year when we celebrate our freedom to read, our freedom to choose, and our freedom to celebrate books! This time is no exception, as Banned Books Week celebrates its 30th year!! Happy Birthday Banned Books Week!
Not quite sure what Banned Books Week is? No problem! Here is a blurb from BannedBooksWeek.org:
Banned Books Week was launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in schools, bookstores and libraries. More than 11,300 books have been challenged since 1982. According to the American Library Association, there were 326 challenges reported to the Office of Intellectual Freedom in 2011, and many more go unreported.
Keep checking out the blog as I post about Banned Books throughout the week! Or better yet, get into the Library to check out the Young Adult Banned Books display and get your hands on a forbidden book today!
