Chinese New Year - Year of the Snake

What do you know about the Chinese New Year?

I'm sure you've all been to a Chinese restaurant and read the place mats that talk about what year you were born in and who you are most compatible with and who you should steer clear of.  Are you a Rat?  A Dragon?  Or maybe a Horse or a Sheep?  Whatever animal you are, it's always fun to learn about another culture and their traditions!  This year, on February 10, people all over the world will be celebrating the Chinese New Year, and this year is the Year of the Snake!

Get into the Library to find some books on China and their culture and traditions.  These books are located in the Adult Non Fiction area:
  • A Pictorial History of Costumes   391.0222 PIC
  • The Chinese Kitchen   641.5951 LO
  • The Chinese Experience in America   973.04951 TSA
  • Chinese and Japanese Art   709.51 SUL

More interested in the their language than the culture?  Try learning a few words in Mandarin Chinese to celebrate the new year!  Access our Mango Languages database through the Library's website.  All you need is your library card number and your 4 digit PIN.  Don't have a PIN?  No problem!  Stop by any desk in the Library to set one up today.
