Cozy Up With a Good Book!
The Eye of Minds by James Dashner
- You may recognize that author from a great little series called The Maze Runner! In this new series, you follow Michael, an extreme gamer, and his two best friends, as they navigate the VirtNet in order to capture a cyber terrorist known as Kaine. Here is my favorite quote from the summary on the Library catalog: "'The Eye of Minds' is the first book in The Mortality Doctrine, a series set in a world of hyperadvanced technology, cyberterrorists, and gaming beyond your wildest dreams . . . and your worst nightmares." Sounds creepy, right??
The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey
- Yancey, another author that I have raved about in the past for his Monstrumologist series, is back and better than ever! This time he is writing a science fiction series about an alien invasion of earth! I am a total sucker for aliens, so I am hoping this book is everything I am hoping for in a new series by this amazing author. Here is a great quote from the Library catalog: "After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one. Now, it's the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them." Maybe this might be too creepy for me?
Asylum by Madeleine Roux
- I don't know much about this book, other than it has real photos in it, like the book Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (also did you know a sequel to that is coming out in January?? Don't worry I have it on order!). Only instead of creepy carnival like photos, this features photos from...you guessed it, asylums! Sure to up the creepy factor over the holiday, I can't wait to see what this book is like! Here is a line from the book summary you can find on the Library's website: "Featuring found photos of unsettling history and real abandoned asylums and filled with chilling mystery and page-turning suspense, Madeleine Roux's teen debut, Asylum, is a horror story that treads the line between genius and insanity." Who doesn't want to read that???
The Girl in the Steel Corset by Kady Cross
- So Steampunk is my new genre of choice, and this book looks right up my alley! Strong female characters, Victorian England, and girls who can fight! This is the first book in a series by this author, but fear not, at least 3 of the books are out so far, so no need to wait and wait for the next book. I'm a little late in the game to this series, but better late than never! Here is a great quote from the summary in the Library catalog: "In 1897 England, 16-year-old Finley Jayne is convinced she's a freak. No normal Victorian girl has a darker side that makes her capable of knocking out a full-grown man with one punch." Boom!
And don't forget!! If you plans do involve reading over this holiday season, make sure to write a book review to get entered into the Teen Winter Reading Program!! CLICK HERE for the online book review form!
